Alumni discussed how identity influences their workplace values and perspectives.

200+ Attend Alumni Leadership Conference

Spring 2016

More than 200 Posse alumni, staff and guests attended the 2016 National Posse Alumni Leadership Conference, held on July 23 in New York City and sponsored by Goodwin Procter and The New York Times Company. Alumni reconnected to the growing Posse network, engaged in professional development workshops, and shared ideas for how they can continue to advance Posse’s goal to change the face and quality of leadership in the United States.

“Because of their diverse experiences and incredible leadership skills, Posse alumni can help change the conversations happening at the highest levels of leadership,” says Posse President and Founder Deborah Bial, who kicked off the event with opening remarks that addressed diversity in the workplace.

In workshops inspired by PossePlus Retreats, alumni participated in engaging conversations about how personal backgrounds and identities shape the values and perspectives that one brings to the workforce. They also worked together to come up with possible strategies and action plans for how they can influence their workplaces to be more inclusive.

Representatives from Posse's graduate school affiliates and national fellowship programs met with alumni who are considering advanced degrees and research opportunities. In addition, Career Program partners networked with alumni throughout the day.

Laquan Lightfoot, a Lafayette College Posse alumna from Washington, D.C., was named the 2016 recipient of the Ainslie Alumni Achievement Award. Her exemplary leadership experience and commitment to serving her community as an assistant district attorney in Philadelphia earned her the honor, which is awarded annually to an individual making meaningful, far-reaching contributions to society.

To help alumni leverage the resources of the Posse Alumni Network and solidify the connections they made at the conference, the Posse National Alumni Advisory Council introduced the Posse Alumni Directory, a new tool accessible through the Posse Portal. Alumni can log in, update their profiles, share their contact information, and connect with the growing alumni community.

Thank you to everyone who attended the conference and helped make it a success!
