Posse Atlanta Turns 10
Posse Atlanta has reached a pivotal milestone: 10 years of service to the local community. Since 2007, the organization has identified, recruited and trained 482 Scholars who have earned over $73 million in merit-based leadership scholarships from the site’s partner colleges and universities. Posse Atlanta now counts 200 young professionals among its alumni, many of whom are working in metro Atlanta.
Posse Atlanta currently boasts partnerships with seven top-tier institutions: Bard College, Boston University, Brandeis University, The College of Wooster, Syracuse University, Texas A&M University and The George Washington University.
Since 2012, five Posse Atlanta Scholars have earned competitive Fulbright Fellowships. In 2014, Atlanta produced the first Posse Scholar to receive the prestigious Truman Scholarship. Just last year alone, seven Posse Atlanta Scholars earned fellowships, including a recent graduate who received the Davis Projects for Peace Fellowship.
Posse Atlanta Scholars continue to make a lasting impact on campuses and in their respective communities. One such remarkable Scholar is Chadwick Smith.
Chad attended Chamblee Charter High School in Chamblee, Georgia, and recently graduated from The College of Wooster. At Wooster, he was honored with the Dorothy Reid Dalzell Award, which recognizes Chad’s “outstanding contributions to the Wooster campus community in the area of extracurricular activities.” Chad was also a speaker at Wooster's 2017 Baccalaureate Program.
Chad was a vocal and active part of Wooster campus life, including serving as President of the Black Students Association (BSA), as a brother and active member of Men of Harambe, a student employee in the admissions office, and as a member of Wooster President Sarah Bolton’s sexual assault task force.
Chad is excited to begin his career working for Teach for America as a high school social studies teacher in Dallas, Texas.
Chad’s successes exemplify the tremendous potential and drive of Posse Scholars. Posse Atlanta thanks its college and university partners for making such opportunities for achievement possible.
