Travelers Partnership Yields Internships, Jobs

Winter 2018 | Atlanta

The relationship between Travelers and Posse Atlanta demonstrates how meaningful the Career Program can be for corporate partners and Scholars.

Travelers offers several internships to Posse Scholars on a recurring basis, with overwhelming success. In a survey of 2017 interns, 100 percent of Posse Atlanta Scholars responded that they would recommend Travelers as an internship host.

Brandeis Posse Scholar Amber Abernathy interned with Travelers last summer as an underwriter in the commercial accounts department.

This past fall, she was offered a full-time position as a business insurance underwriter for select accounts in Travelers’ Underwriting Professional Development training program for first-year underwriters. She has accepted the job and looks forward to starting in June, after her graduation.

Amber originally applied to Brandeis and the Posse program as a high school student at Holy Innocent’s Episcopal School in Atlanta. Upon matriculating as a Scholar, Amber declared a double major in international and global studies and African and Afro-American studies, with a minor in French and francophone studies.

She gained further hands-on education in her minor with a study abroad experience in France and Cameroon during her junior year.

“Thanks to Travelers, I’ve discovered my unknown passion for insurance,” says Amber. She credits the company for unearthing the interest, which she says might have remained untapped without the internship.
