Twin Scholars Study Environmental Sciences, Win Fellowships

Spring 2016 | Houston

Identical twin sisters and Scholars Molly and Emma Wu are pursuing degrees in the environmental sciences at Colby College and Bryn Mawr College, respectively. This summer the young women will further their academic and career goals as recipients of a Cultural Vistas Fellowship and a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship.

Molly, who is studying both environmental sciences and studio art at Colby, plans to pursue environmental law after graduating. In March she was awarded a Cultural Vistas Fellowship to spend eight weeks in Bangalore, India, as part of a multinational development program focused on entrepreneurship and innovation. The fellowship is designed to connect students to internships and bridge the gap of challenges faced when working abroad. Molly’s project will be focused on specific environmental issues in the region.

Emma, a geology major at Bryn Mawr, was awarded a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship, which provides research stipends, mentoring, and other forms of funding and support. This semester she collaborated with other geology students on mapping Mars during a research trip to the Bahamas and next semester she’ll study geology in Denmark and Iceland. She’ll spend her summer in the geology lab studying samples to quantify biodiversity in microscopic and macroscopic life over time.
